DIRECTOR'S REPORT

The Library Personnel Committee is in the process of evaluating Audrey's job performance for the past year.

The library has contracted with Himmel & Wilson to conduct an organizational study. Specifically they will look at the organizational structure, what we do well, what we need to improve, etc. There are currently several open positions and it was deemed an opportune time to evaluate the organizational structure.

One area where we can improve is materials handling. This building was designed to be decentralized and it is not as efficient as it could be and needs to be addressed.

One of the outcomes of the study will be guidance in how to implement a continuous improvement program, so that whatever benefit accrues from the study is not incrementally lost over time.

As a part of the study, the Board held a half day planning session and looked at what the library's role in the community. The Board was very much in concurrence on the top roles of the library and they are: lifelong learning, information resources, and current topics.

We expect the results of the study to be available by September 15.

TREASURER'S REPORT

Michele reviewed the report. As of June 30, we have total assets of $42,000, all of which is in cash; $6,000 of which is in the book endowment fund. Some of the balance also reflects contributions from the annual fund drive.

The library has approximately $85,000 invested with the City which the Library Board had approved turning over to the Library Foundation for investment. In looking into the matter, some questions arose on whether these funds can be turned over to the Foundation since the City Charter states that any money given to the library is deemed given to the City of Rochester to be used for library purposes. This also has long-term impacts if a gift is given to the library rather than the Foundation.

Ed Haskell moved, John Hunziker second to accept the second quarter Treasurer's Report. Motion approved.

ANNUAL FUND DRIVE

Through July 21, we have collected $19,400. Of that amount, there were nine book a year endowments, so $4,500 will be added to the book endowment fund.
